As I contemplate my journey, it is evident that my life has been a harmonious fusion of rhythm, passion, and the legacy of jazz.

My journey as a drummer is not merely a pursuit of musical excellence; it is a symphony of dedication and heritage. Growing up with a legendary father like Charlie Rouse, I was immersed in an atmosphere where jazz luminaries were more than just names in records; they were family friends and mentors. This upbringing was a living jazz history lesson, an experience that has bestowed upon me a profound understanding of the genre's essence.

As a drummer, I carry the heartbeat of jazz within me. My rhythms are not just beats; they are stories, passed down through generations. The musical influences of my father and his peers include iconic figures like John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, Cannonball Adderley, Milt Jackson, Art Blakey, and Miles Davis. When my father was on stage performing, my guardian was the Jazz Baroness, Kathleen Annie Panonnica de Koenigswarter Rothchild (I knew her as Nica). These iconic figures and what they contributed to the world is not something I merely absorbed; it's the living pulse of my life-force. This unique exposure has granted me an insight into the soul of jazz that is unparalleled.

I don't just play the drums; I narrate the history of jazz through my life experiences and the influences of my upbringing. Some of my personal instructors and mentors include Charlie Persip, Freddy Waits, Norman Grossman, Warren Smith, Keith Copeland, Ben Riley, just to name a few. My mother was one of the original chorus line dancers in the Savoy Ballroom, Copacabana, and the original Cotton Club. She was Cuban and that cultural heritage also greatly influenced my music. Some of her friends who were frequent guests at my childhood home were Mongo Santamaria, Potato, Joe Cuban, etc. My performances are a testament to the authenticity and richness that comes from a lifetime of living and breathing this music. In every stroke of the drumsticks, there is an echo of my father's saxophone, and in every rhythm, there is the spirit of the jazz greats.

It is rare to encounter an artist whose life story is as captivating as their music, and my upbringing is one of those rarities. My journey is a testament to the enduring legacy of jazz and its ability to transcend generations. I am constantly and deeply honored by the cultural heritage I carry forward.

In conclusion, I am not just a drummer; I am an ambassador of jazz history, a storyteller, and a bridge between the past and the present. My life is a living tribute to my father and the jazz legends who shaped my world.
